Town Council Planning Committee - have your say.
The Town Council invites members of the public who live in
the parish of Oundle to speak on planning applications. Residents may
speak in favour of an application or against it or simply request a
modification. Speakers are asked to keep their views brief -
there will be a time limit of 2 minutes. A request to speak must
be submitted to the Clerk to the Council, in writing, 48hrs prior to the
Planning meeting New technology has been installed to enhance the facility offered to
the public and plans are now downloaded from the East Northants
Council's website. This means a greater opportunity for
participation in meetings for members of the public and councillors.
It is important to say that East Northamptonshire Council is the
Planning Authority and makes the final decisions on each application.
However, Oundle Town Council is a consultative body and receives plans
for comment.

time to apply for a
Supporting
the Arts & the Community
Oundle residents have an astonishing level of interest in
the performing arts, as demonstrated by the diverse range of events that
are staged each year. These performances only take place because
of the dedication of the people who devote their time to raising funds,
producing and participating in shows and events. Oundle Town Council
is pleased to support the work of many of these community-based groups
through awarding grants. Awards can be seen on the Grants
page of this website. Clearly, we have limited funding with which we can
show our appreciation to those who contribute in this way to making Oundle
a vibrant community. Nevertheless, we are pleased to be able to make
a difference. If you are planning a public or educational show,
performance or event and would like some help, why don't you talk to
us? We are always interested in new groups and their ideas.

Strollers
This year (2006) we have a
programme of walks, much as last year which proved popular and were well
attended.
This year there are 5 Wednesday evening walks between April and August. 12 Saturday afternoon walks
will be held on the first Saturday of each
month and the 4 all day Saturday walks are in the months of
April - May- June- September.
With the exception of the evening walks we
meet at the Drill Hall Car Park Benefield Road and then go to the start
point of the
walk.
The walks vary in distance from as little as 4 miles up to
12 miles or so on the all day walks. It is hoped that in this way all
those who enjoy the countryside and walking are catered
for. Many of the
footpaths have new signs and kissing gates have been replaced quite a
number of
styles.
The footbridge over the overflow on the river bank to Cotterstock has
proved most popular. This walk is now possible at all times of the
year.
Strollers always welcome new walkers to join and enjoy the varied
countryside this area has to offer. If you would like to be a leader
please do not hesitate to ask - your name could go on next years
programme.
See the Strollers Walks page in this
website for this year's programme of walks.

Improving
Access to the Countryside
Northamptonshire County Council has established and improved the walk from
Oundle to Cotterstock - new gates and stiles, a bridge over the weir, mown
paths, etc. There is also a free leaflet available from the Tourist
Information Office outlining this walk, if you are not sure where it is.
The Oundle Conservation and Tourism Group continue to work in partnership
with Northants County Council, East Northants Council and the Tourist
Information Centre to improve the access to the countryside around Oundle.
Snipe
Meadow
In 1998, when Oundle Town Council purchased Snipe Meadow, we knew we were
acquiring a valuable site. It is of great importance as a
conservation area and forms part of a traditional riverside
landscape. Improvements to access make it a wonderful amenity
for the town.
Colin Ray of East Northamptonshire Council visited Snipe Meadow on 1
June 2003 as part of the procedure to award Nature Reserve status to the
site. English Nature has already identified the meadow as a site
with conservation value and recommend ENC making it a nature reserve.
Oundle
Town Council wishes to express its appreciation to all those who
contribute to the project. If you wish to be involved, whether it is
to help monitor the site, take photographs or join our work parties,
please contact Oundle Town Council. For
further details on Snipe Meadow visit the Pocket Parks
page in this website.

| Traffic Calming
in Oundle |
|
In order to make life safer for
pedestrians who need to cross Mill Road, Northants County Council has
replaced the present dangerous walkway with a more visible
crossing a little further down the road and therefore further from the
corner. In order to slow down traffic in West Street as it
approaches the corner leading to Mill Road or drives into the town centre,
a platform style crossing has been built where there was a
ragged red strip. This will help all those who live on Stoke Hill,
Stoke Doyle Road and Warren bridge, and the numerous visitors coming from
the town to the computer learning centre, the museum and the offices in
the Courthouse. This plan was developed as a result of
discussions with the Area Highways Manager during the 'surgeries' held
from time to time in Oundle. |
