The Oundle Jigsaw
Volunteer Action (VA) is a local charity which operates in Oundle, Thrapston, & 46 surrounding villages. Its principal activity is the running of a community car scheme which aims to provide reasonably-priced transport for those in genuine need who live in the area. VA also provides a befriending service, with befrienders giving one-to-one support & companionship for the elderly, & those isolated by disability; & a referral service, which helps clients make contact with other local & national support agencies.
VA is partly funded by grants from Local Authorities & the NHS, but also relies on donations from individuals & organisations, & its own fund-raising activities, the latest of which is The Oundle Jigsaw. Based on an original illustration by Gillian Dolby of Oundle's Dolby Gallery, the 1000-piece jigsaw features shops & other buildings in the town centre, plus a host of residents & other pedestrians, both real & imaginary, going about their daily business. For all residents, & those who work or attend school in the town, plus tourists & other visitors, the jigsaw should prove to be a much sought-after souvenir of all that Oundle offers. The jigsaw retails at £20.00 & is available at The Oundle Bookshop, Colemans Stationers & Dolby Gallery. All proceeds from sales of the jigsaw will go to the VA charity – for further details see www.volunteeractionoundle.org.uk.
