Northamptonshire County Council Volunteer Update: November National Restrictions
Sunday's announcement marked big changes to those in England. Again we face severe social restrictions in a bid to stop the spread of the disease and save lives. For the Clinically Extremely Vulnerable (CEV), extra advice sees many heed warnings not to go to work, shops or pharmacies. This means many will become once more dependent on volunteers to help with basic tasks like fetching groceries and medicines. I hope that many of you are still able to help this particularly affected group a second time around.
National Restrictions
I know many of you may be concerned about the rules coming into force. Part 2 of the new regulations sets out the rules about staying at home and under what circumstances you can leave. This includes providing voluntary services, if you cannot reasonably provide them from home (like delivering food, for example). If you are clinically vulnerable to the virus, we ask that you don't accept any volunteering tasks that can't be done over the phone. Practical support is available to anyone who is staying at home - Request help and support coronavirus
Volunteering Safely
For those of you who do pick up volunteering tasks, I would like to remind you of the importance of keeping yourself safe. The best ways to protect yourself and others are:
- Wash Hands. Keep washing your hands regularly.
- Cover Face. Wear a face covering in enclosed and busy public spaces.
- Make Space. Stay at least 2m apart from other people.
Looking after yourself
A lot has changed this year. It has caused a lot of stress and anxiety for many. The British Red Cross has put together some advice for looking after yourself when you're feeling a little overwhelmed. Coronavirus - how to take the calmer approach
