Gritting - the winter service

Northamptonshire Highways do not have the resources to grit every path and road in the county and encourage people to use the 1500 grit bins across the county.

There is a common misconception that the public could be held liable it they use the from the grits bins. This is not true and Northamptonshire Highways actively encourage people to use the grit in these bins on public paths, roads and public spaces.

How do we get our grit bin restocked?

Northamptonshire Highways inspect and fill all County Council owned bins at the beginning of the winter period. Northamptonshire Highways will provide more grit when needed depending upon their available resources, their usage and the severity of the weather. Requests for bins to be refilled can be made via Fix my Street
